Chemical peels use acids, like alpha hydroxy(AHA) or Beta hydroxy (BHA) acids, to exfoliate the top layer of skin. The type of chemical used determines the depth of the exfoliation, and thus, the intensity of the treatment and aftercare. Some chemical peels result in a few days of redness or tenderness, as the face heals.
Enzyme peels use naturally-derived active ingredients that are often found in fruits like papaya and pineapple. The enzymes break down and slough off the top layer of skin. These are often more gentle than chemical peels, and are safe for just about everyone.
